Christian Education

Vision for Christian Education of Sawyer Highlands Church

…so that the next generation might set their hope in God

Psalm 78:1-7

Philosophical position- envisioned parents being the primary disciplers of their children.

We desire to present the truths of God so that people of Sawyer may find pleasure in the worship of God and teaching about Him to all people.

We desire to teach so our adults would see God supreme in all things that they may pass this truth on to youth, thereby generation after generation will continue to know God's Word.

We desire to have well-equipped teachers using God-centered curriculum enhancing the parent’s primary role in teaching the truths of God so the youth may know & enjoy God.

Sawyer Highlands Church Sunday School Curriculum

Toddlers- A Sure Foundation  (Desiring God)

An integral beginning—a place of prayer for young children, a place where they hear foundational Bible stories, and a place where children learn simple truth statements and begin to memorize scripture as they form their language skills.

Preschoolers - He Established a Testimony  (Desiring God)

God has testified of His glorious deeds and mighty power. This curriculum explores God's greatness by noting key themes found chronologically throughout the Old Testament, acquainting children with a great God whose character never changes.

Preschoolers - He Has Spoken by His Son     (Desiring God)

The New Testament beautifully unfolds the wonder and power of Jesus Christ. This curriculum explores the greatness of God in Christ by noting key themes found chronologically throughout the New Testament, acquainting children with a great God who has spoken by His Son.

K-1st- The ABCs of God: A Study on the Greatness and Worth of God (Desiring God)

Right thinking about God is essential for the life of faith. Using the alphabet as a framework for teaching the attributes of God, this study explores the delight that God has in Himself as the source, means, and purpose of all things. Each lesson asks and answers three key questions, "Who is God?" "What is He like?" and "How should I act toward Him?" as it presents a theology of God for children.

2nd-3rd- Firm Foundations: From Creation to Christ (New Tribe Missions)

Children gain an overall understanding of the Bible and its key themes as they learn who God is and what he has done, as presented in His Word. Firm, carefully constructed scriptural foundations support a clear, God-centered presentation of the Gospel, pointing the children to God and to His Word as they are taught chronologically through the Bible, from creation to Christ

4th – 5th To Be Like Jesus: A Study on Following Jesus  (Desiring God)

What is salvation? How does someone become a Christian? What does it mean to become like Jesus? This curriculum helps answer these important questions by explaining elements of the Gospel message, its purpose, and promise. A major portion of this study focuses on the doctrine of sanctification - the process by which a Christian becomes more and more conformed to the likeness of Jesus.

6th – 8th- Foundations of Faith  (David A Moorhead)

An in-depth, 2 year study of the Old Testament and the New Testament focusing on Biblical theology and doctrines of the church to provide a systematic understanding of God, scripture, and the doctrines of faith, thus leading our youth into the process of mature theological reflection.
