Session Descriptions

Personal Online Safety: Challenges and Solutions in a Virtual World
(Friday night session 7pm - 8:30pm)

Audience: General Public: business community, etc…

Americans are going online like never before. From Facebook and YouTube to watching your favorite TV shows and conducting business, the Internet offers thousands of positive benefits and fun things to do.

But what dangers are lurking on the dark side of the Net? How can you stay safe in our new virtual world? More important, how can your children stay safe online?

Online interactions affect our families, careers, business reputations, and ultimately our personal integrity. What new problems are emerging regarding security and privacy? More important, what solutions offer hope to connect your offline values with your online world? This fast-paced presentation will move beyond the basics and cover true stories and effective answers to help you maintain your virtual integrity.

The Scary Reality: How e-Temptation Targets You
(Saturday 8am - 9:30am )  [This session is just for men]

Audience: Primarily men from SHC, and other invited local pastors & churches

You go online and it happens. Where are your eyes drawn? How did you end up somewhere you never intended to go five minutes earlier? Tempting the click has become a 21st-Century science. This session will demonstrate how your integrity is often attacked on the Internet.

We are in a constant battle over our thoughts, dreams, time and money. For men, everything is at stake. Your career, family, marriage and even your faith in God are impacted. Dan will tell true stories of men who are succeeding and failing in cyberspace. Sadly, millions of men are deceived online each day in the same way as the simple man who is described in Proverbs 7.

There is hope, but effective answers that last must address more than just technology. We need repeatable processes and accountability. Most of all, we need a change of heart. God’s Word tells us we need renewed minds (Romans 12:2). Join us to learn more about the challenges men face online and for motivation and strategies to walk the narrow road and maintain virtual integrity.

Breakout session with discussion questions at the end

 Seven Habits of Online Integrity
Saturday 10am - 11:30am

Audience: Christian men and women from high school and older, area churches

Connecting to the Internet has moved from an occasional activity to an integral part of our lives at home, school and work. As Christians, how can we connect our offline values with our online world? If simplistic answers aren’t working for society, how can we build virtual integrity into everyday life? How can we help others online as we move deeper into the 21st Century?

This session will offer pragmatic answers that go beyond the simplistic tips offered by so many popular websites and computer articles. Using God’s Word as the basis, Lohrmann will walk through the seven habits described in his book Virtual Integrity: Faithfully Navigate the Brave New Web. These habits include:

1. Refresh Your Values in Cyber-Space
2. Pledge Personal Online Integrity
3. Seek Trusted Accountability
4. Apply Helpful Technology
5. Balance Online and Offline Life
6. Practice Humble Authenticity
7. Become a Cyber-Ambassador for Good

With true stories from home and work, Dan will challenge your thinking regarding cyberspace by applying God’s Word to virtual life.

Q & A at the end.
