CELL QUESTIONS

FOR PERSONAL REFLECTION and LIFE GROUP DISCUSSIONS

v.7 Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything. The following questions are meant to stimulate the “thinking over” of these words. Don’t feel bound to them. The Holy Spirit’s words to you will be more precise than these.

Read 2 Timothy 2:1-7, and have someone review the message from their notes

1. Verse 3 contains an imperative which includes both action and attitude. What is commanded? What does that mean? Would you say that you are willing to embrace suffering? Why or why not? What might that look like in your case? {life right now?}

Most of the rest of these questions are assessing ourselves (which is good). But it is also very good to realize the growth that has come because of the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives. So I have also include “how have you seen progress” at the end of each section.

2. Is my attitude toward Christ & His Church more consumer-like? Or more soldier-like? How is this attitude reflected in my actions & choices? Where have you seen progress?

3. Think about a Soldier’s dedication. What characteristics instruct our life in Christ? Is there anything that has gotten me entangled? What is like a “civilian affair” and has gotten me distracted from loyalty to Christ, or seeing myself engaged in spiritual battle?
How have you seen progress in your life?

4. Think about an Athlete’s discipline. What characteristics instruct our life in Christ? Do I apply the rigor of athletic training to my spiritual growth?
What does it mean to not try and take “short cuts” spiritually? How have you seen progress in spiritual discipline?

5. Think about the Farmer’s diligence. What characteristics instruct our life in Christ?
“No one manages your spiritual life. No one can make you commune with God. No one can make you choose to participate in the Body of Christ. No one can hold you accountable.” Regarding the development of my spiritual life, would those qualities of diligence, perseverance, & self-managing, would they be true of me? How has the Lord brought about growth and progress for you?

6. Each of these examples suffers in a kind of way. Describe each of their suffering, and describe why it is worth it. Why do you think Paul includes this in each example?
