Sermon Application Questions
Read 2 Timothy 2:14-19 and have some review the message from their notes.
1. There is an emphasis in both v. 14 & 15 about the importance of knowing the
Gospel well (“remind them of these things” and “rightly handling the word of truth”).
Why was that important for Timothy? And the Ephesian church? And why is that important in your life?
2. V. 15 also alludes to a common Biblical theme: the connection of life to doctrine. That if one really knows doctrine, their life will really be affected. How have you seen changes in your life, as your understanding of God has grown?
3. v.16-18 speaks of the affects (and examples) of “irreverent babble.” What are we to do? Why? What does that mean for us?
4. v. 19 is a key point of worship in the text. Dealing with false teaching, those who’ve left, etc…can be a disheartening point. Describe the truth that is in v. 15. What does this tell us about God? What does it tell us about the church?
How does that encourage you?
5. {for fun} identify more places in the Bible that include a “BUT GOD.” Every situation changes with that phrase. Have you had any of those recently?
