Sermon Application Questions “Alone, But Not Alone”
{There was a lot of content in this message. Prayerfully consider where you might want to concentrate your Life Group discussion, and look for the Holy Spirit’s opportunity for ministry. The goal is not to try and cover every point of the message}.
Read 2 Timothy 4:9-22 and have someone review the message from their notes.
1. Can you recall the 5 observations from 4:16-18?
2. As Paul describes being deserted we realize that God’s people sometimes fail one another. We also noticed Paul’s attitude of kindness & mercy toward those who had let him down, rather than holding a grudge.
a. Have you ever experienced being let down by another brother or sister?
b. How can we the same kind of attitude as Paul?
c. Describe how self-pity works in one’s life. What does self-pity say about God? How have you had to “put to death” self –pity?
3. Describe the “But God” moment of this passage. What might God be doing when we feel “all alone”? (Recall the verses from John 14-16)
4. The Lord met Paul even though his friends left him. Describe the things that Paul says God did, as well as the things that God will do. Why is he so confident? Why do you think Paul could see this? -- How do you need to apply the same kinds of lessons?
5. What are some lessons we learn from the life of Demas?
a. In what ways do you think that the Lord would have you fight being in love with this present world?
b. Were any of the 4 suggestions something you think the Lord would have you do?

6. What are some lessons we learn from the life of Mark? How does that encourage you with people? Who have you “frozen in time”? Do you think God may be working in their life? What should you do?
